CHANDIGARH: With Punjab police issuing fresh set of instructions to all districts police heads of the state to clamp down upon trigger happy revellers during weddings in the state in a recently held meeting of police department in Chandigarh, the campaign against such hooliganism, espoused, of late, by celebrities including noted comedian Bhagwant Mann seems to have borne tangible results.
The noted comedian Mann, in a press statement issued here Saturday has welcomed the instructions issued by the Punjab DGP N P S Aulakh which apparently instruct all SSPs to deal with such criminally inclined trouble makers strictly by way of renewed steps. Bhagwant Mann, who is the first and the only celebrity of the region so far to have espoused the cause against hooliganism by trigger happy revellers after the tragic incident involving death of an assistant camera by accidental fire in a Mohali marriage palace last month, has thanked Punjab DGP Aulakh for reiterating police's commitment to thwart any threat to public at large and prevent such instances. Mann, in his statement, hailed the instructions by DGP which imply strict adherence to the existing norms and proper vigilance by cops in their area. The no tolerance regime purported through such instructions, added Mann, will go a long way in dissuading people to become unduly and excessively violent just to show off. The instructions issued recently also include wide display and publicity, warning marriage palaces and wedding parties of strict prohibitory norms vis a vis use of fire arms by way of firing in the air to celebrate. Mann reiterated that responsible citizens and role models should come forward to guide and discourage public at large in such ostentatious display of pseudo prowess which is nothing but a self gratifying gesture at the cost of some innocent's security which is often at risk during such critical displays. |
