CHANDIGARH: The well known veteran journalist, Tribhuvan Nath breathed his last at his home in Panchkula, near here, at 1.50 a.m on Monday.
Tribhuvan Nath, 86, is survived by his two daughters. One of his daughters namely Ms Tripti Nath is a Principal Correspondent with The Tribune, the other, Dr Preeti Nath is working as a Lecturer at Government College, Panchkula. The former Special Correspondent of The Times of India, Tribhuvan Nath, was a versatile writer with varied interests . He had served The Times of India for more than three decades at various news centres, the last being in Chandigarh. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Tribhuvan Nath,In a condolence message Badal, described Tribhuvan Nath as a seasoned and fearless journalist who would be long remembered for his objective writings.
Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda has expressed grief and sorrow on his demise. Hooda has also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and prayed that the departed soul might rest in peace. Tribhuvan Nath had worked in Nepal from 1962 to 1971 and had an eventful stint in the neighbouring country during his posting at Kathmandu. He was rated as a "hawk" by the journalistic fraternity.
But his posting in Nepal was cut short by the intolerant regime of the then His Majesty Government following his despatches from Nepal on Chinese designs on Indian subcontinent. Tribhuvan Nath was compelled to leave Nepal and his telegraphic authority was forfeited by the then His Majesty Government in Nepal. Nath had ever green interest in Nepal which inspired him to co-author a book titled "The Yeti Trail, Search for the Abominable Snowman" with his late contemporary, Madan Mohan Gupta, a correspondent of the UPI. His book, "Nepalese Dilemma" published in 1975 was the run away success and an international best seller. Tribhuvan Nath also being a friend as well as a student of the great Hindi poet, late Harivansh Rai Bachchan, compiled into a book some of the selected letters, which he had received from Dr Bachchan from 1940 to 1985.This book was entitled as "Patro ke Ayne Se". It was in the year 1991 that Tribhuvan Nath was honoured by the Government of Uttar Pradesh for his writings on the freedom struggle of the country. Apart from the members of his family, Tribhuvan Nath's death has been mourned by not only his contemporaries, but also by political leaders, his admirers and well wishers. |
