FATEHGARH SAHIB: 25 year old Bassi Pathana resident Kalicharan reportedly committed suicide at Phase VI bus stand of SAS Nager on Thursday night. As per reports, from Bassi Pathana Kalicharan went to the bus stand and consumed some poisonous substance.

Kalicharan, who was working in a factory at Bassi Pathana as labourer, was also active in social welfare work and raised voice against various irregularities in town.  He also remained president of Bassi Pathana unit of Bajrang Dal and was presently active member of Hindu Organisation. He also unsuccessfully contested the municipal council election. He was living alone at a rented accommodation at Bassi Pathana while his two brothers are living separately.

As per reports, Kalichran had complained against former municipal council, Bassi Pathana president (who belongs to congress) and leveled serious allegations against her, which is being inquired by local bodies department.  

Sources said that some factory owners of Bassi Pathana were annoyed with Kalicharan as he complained against them to Punjab State Electricity Board.

Sources said that Kalicharan telephoned some of his supporters on Thursday and told them that he was going to commit suicide. Sources said that he also telephoned a factory owner and some other persons that he was going to commit suicide because of harassment to him on their part. Sources said that these persons informed Bassi Pathana in this regard.

When some of his supporters telephoned him he told that he had consumed poisonous substance at phase VI bus stand of Mohali. They immediately reached at bus stand and admitted him to PGIMR, Chandigarh, where he died on Friday morning.

Sources said that Kalicharan had left an affidavit in which he mentioned the name of persons who had harassed him but local police official did not confirm it. The post mortem examination of the deceased will be conducted at PGIMR, Chandigarh.

Arun Pathak of Hindu Organisation said that his organization will pursue this case and will also perform the cremation of Kalicharan, who was an honest, hard working and dedicated man.
