CHANDIGARH: Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) NPS Aulakh Tuesday emphasised on the need to have better and close coordination between the state police and jail staff to check undesirable activities of the under trial and convicted hardcore criminals lodged in different jails of the state.

In a high level meeting of IG/Zones and DIG/Ranges which was also attended by Mohd. Izhar Alam, DGP, Prisons, the state police chief discussed various important issues like recovery of mobile phones and alleged nexus of criminals lodged in jails and offered full cooperation to jail staff.

On this point the DGP (prisons) also pointed out some vital issues including the police escort arrangements for the under trials during their court hearings and installation of close circuits cameras in visitors' room. He also assured the DGP of every possible help from jail administration in monitoring activities of the under trial criminals.

Earlier, in the monthly crime meeting , the Punjab DGP urged the field officers to review and chalk out security arrangements well in advance for ensuring peaceful conduct of ensuing Panchayat Elections on April 7. He said that keeping in view the availability of limited force the field officers should mobilize additional force by withdrawing additional PSOs  attached to various protectees .

The police chief also took a serious note of delay in prompt and correct reporting of important incidents and categorically made it clear that it would not be tolerated in any case.

Regarding illegal use of red-light/hooters and gross violation of traffic rules in the State, he asked the field officers to enforce rules by launching special drive against traffic violations throughout the state.

Keeping in view the recommendations of the de-limitation commission, he directed the field officers to recommend re-demarcations of police station boundaries in consonance with the recommendations of the commission.
