ROPAR: Rajinder Singh Inspector General of Punjab police Tuesday moved an application in the court of G.S.Saran Additional district Sessions judge here seeking anticipatory bail, fearing his arrest by Punjab police. The court has granted status quo till Wednesday and ssked the state government to file reply tomorrow.

Rajinder Singh who was on March 5 last placed under suspension in an alleged land grab case has stated in his application in the court here that Ropar police may register some false case against him to arrest him.

The suspension was made on the basis of a complaint lodged by the management of a private engineering college in the periphery of Chandigarh. The management of the college has two groups and one group is headed by a brother of the IG. The rival group has alleged the IG’s brother was exerting influence.Since the formation of the SAD-BJP government in Punjab, Rajinder Singh was posted IG (counter intelligence) at Pathankot.

Rajinder Singh, 1982 batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre, had earlier moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking stay on the promotion of his batchmates - 1982 batch, of the Punjab cadre. The high court granted the stay and sought a status report. The case is listed for hearing in the next few days.

Rajinder Singh had claimed he was being ignored for promotion as ADGP, while his batchmates, Sanjiv Gupta, Sumedh Singh Saini and Suresh Arora, were being considered.

Rajinder Singh had claimed four posts of the ADGP were vacant in Punjab and there was no reason to deny him promotion. He had alleged he was being denied promotion as he had registered cases against Sukhbir Badal during the previous regime and was being victimised now.
