BAGHDAD: At least 54 people were killed in Iraq after a series of deadly attacks across the country.

The sources said that in Baghdad, seven people were killed and 14 injured in a suicide car bombing.

Another person was killed when the Green zone in the capital came under heavy fire from insurgents, they said.

In the northwestern city of Mosul, a suicide car-bomber attacked a military base, killing 13 Iraq soldiers and wounding 42 people, including 12 civilians.

The US military say they killed scores of insurgents in a series of raids over the weekend, while another 12 insurgents were killed in a suicide bombing in Baqouba.

The US sources also say that 5 men with suspected al-Qaida ties were killed on Saturday near the border with Iran.
