CHANDIGARH: The opposition Congress on Monday staged walk out from Punjab Vidhan Sabha in protest against disapproval of their demand for a discussion of heroin smuggling by certain office bearers  of youth wing of ruling Shiromani Akali Dal.

Leader of opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal during zero hour raised the issue of  seizure of 22 kg of heroin in Amritsar on Sunday by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and subsequent arrest of a youth akali dal leader.

Bhattal said that it was shocking that Punjab police was sleeping over the issue even though reports of large scale smuggling of drugs in the state have been appearing in newspapers.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal however intervened to inform that Punjab police had also seized three kg heroin Sunday.

Sukhpal Singh Khaira of Congress supported Bhattal seeking special discussion on the drug smuggling. Brahm Mohindra of Congress sought an assurance that probe into heroin smuggling would not be influenced.

Soon after speaker Nirmal ingh Kahlon declined permission for the discussion, the Congress members walked out raising anti government slogans. They however returned after ten minutes when call attention motion was being taken up by house.
