CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda Monday said that the State Government would implement the report of the sixth Pay Commission by and large as per its recommendations, but made it clear that at the moment there was no proposal to raise the retirement age of  the employees of the State Government.

The Chief Minister was replying to the questions of media persons in press lobby of Haryana Vidhan Sabha, here Monday.

He said that the State Government has already provided Rs 1500 crore in the budget of the State for the year 2008-09 for implementation of the report of the sixth Pay Commission.

When his attention was drawn towards the statement of the Union Law Minister, Hans Raj Bhardwaj that he did not feel requirement of a separate High Court for Haryana, Hooda said that he was in favour of state’s High Court in the same building and there has been no change in his stand.

When a newsman pointed out that Hans Raj Bhardwaj had repeatedly been saying that unless Haryana did not have a separate capital, he does not feel the need  for a separate High Court.

Hooda replied that  Chandigarh was Haryana’s capital and the State had 40 per cent of its share in it. Similarly,  the State has its share in the same ratio in Vidhan Sabha and Civil Secretariat.

Hooda added that he would further pursue the issue of separate High Court for Haryana.

When asked to comment on the resolution adopted by the Punjab Assembly to rename Chandigarh Airport after Shaeed Bhagat Singh, Hooda said that he would be very happy in case the Airport is named after a martyr.

He added that by naming Airport after Shaeed Bhagat Singh would give him a personal sense of satisfaction because his family and that of Shaeed Bhagat Singh had family relations. He made it clear that he would not let the Airport renamed as Shaeed Bhagat Singh Airport, Mohali but it could be Shaeed Bhagat Singh Airport, Chandigarh.

When his attention was drawn towards a provision of Rs 460 crore made by Punjab Government for Chandigarh airport, Hooda said that the Haryana Government was also prepared to give its share of funds.

While the Central Government has 51 per cent share, both Punjab and Haryana have a share of 24-and-a-half per cent each. He said that this would be a commercial airport and the process was on to sign a MoU in this
regard.

In reply to a question on the problem of drinking water in Gurgaon city, Hooda said that the Gurgaon canal was first breached on March 19, but it was plugged. It was again breached on March 22 and the issue was being investigated.

He said that a FIR has been got lodged against some persons on this issue. He said that soon after getting the information about the breach in the canal, he directed the Chief Secretary to ensure supply of water in Gurgaon. Also, the Irrigation Department was directed to immediately plug the breach.

He hoped that it would be plugged by today evening and the canal would be functional by tomorrow. He said that there was a possibility of situation turning normal by day after tomorrow. He said that 400 tankers of water have been rushed to Gurgaon to ensure supply of water.
