CHANDIGARH: A total of 126 golfers will take part in the Punjab Open begining at Chandigarh Golf Club on March 26.
The Championship will tee off with the Pro Am event on March 26 and this will be followed by the tournament from March 27 to March 30. The Rs 25 Lakh PGTI event will see the participation of top professional players from the country like Digvijay Singh, Rahul Ganapathy, Shamim Khan, Arjun Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Harmeet Kahlon, Amandeep Johl and Harendra Gupta. While interacting with the media persons, Ajai Gupta, tour commissioner of PGTI said Chandigarh Golf Club has got all the required facilities for hosting the first edition of the event and it is a step towards development of the game in the region. “We are very pleased to announce the launch of the Punjab Open. I am grateful to all the sponsors and I hope we will be able to take this tournament further by making it a regular feature on national scene,” said Gupta. Gupta showed confidence of making the championship of the Asian tour in the coming few years. “We are planning to get the tournament included in Asian tour may be in its second or third edition and I am hopeful that we will see a large number of participation in the championship in the coming years,” added Gupta. He further informed that efforts were on to make Indian golf global and in future, participation of foreign players was going to increase. International golfer Harmeet Kahlon who belongs to the city, said it was quite a honour to play in a tournament being held at Chandigarh Golf Course. “It feels nice to be back at home and we all are looking towards participating in the tournament. The course is in good shape and most of us are in fine form, so it will be a tough competition for all of us in the next few days,” said Kahlon. |
