Punjab govt shifted Badal family's corruption cases from Ropar to Mohali Print E-mail

CHANDIGARH: Punjab government Tuesday notified that all the VIP cases being earlier heard at Ropar will now be taken up at SAS Nagar.

 

An additional district and session court started functioning in  the new district of Mohali last week. The case agaisnt Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, his wife and son will be shifted from Ropar to Mohali.

Other then this ex- Punjab Public Service Commission Chairman Ravi Sidhu corruption cases have already been shifted here.

Since there was no local court in Mohali, people would file cases with the vigilance bureau and hearings were held at Ropar.

The notification was issued by Department of Home Affairs and Justice (Judicial Branch). It said the additional sessions judge here would exercise the powers conferred by section 3 read with sub-section (2) of the section 4 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 ( Central Act No 49 of 1988), and all other powers.

Governor of Punjab has appointed Additional Sessions Judges, then the first Additional Sessions judge as Special Judge for the area of Mohali District, for the trial of offences specified in sub-section (1) of section 3 of the aforesaid Act.

Dr BC Gupta, Principal Secretary to Government of Punjab, Department of Home Affairs and justice, said that now onwards all the VIP cases will be settled here only.
