SGPC urged Prime Minister to intervene to halt auction in London Print E-mail

AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Avtar Singh Makkar Sunday in a letter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has sought the intervention of Government of India to halt the proposed auction of a piece of body armour of tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh in London on April 9, this year.

Copy of the letter distributed to the media here Sunday Makkar said, “Steel aromour believed to be belonging to tenth Sikh Master Guru Gobind Singh which is being auctioned by the Sobabeej Arts of Islamic World Sale, New Bond, Street, London has rattled the entire Sikh World, in as much this holy relic of our Guru (master) has deep Sikh sentiments attached to it”.

Letter further added, “ We urge Government of India to intervene to have this auction postponed until the authenticity of this armour is confirmed by Sikh experts. It calls for immediate intervention of Government of India because the matter is highly sensitive as it involves Sikh religious attachment”.

Ramesh Inder Singh, referring to the plan of the state government for the development of Ludhiana city, said that under JNURM program, the government was spending funds amounting to Rs 600 crore for providing adequate sewerage and water supply facilities.

He said that to decongest the fat increasing traffic, a ring road was also being constructed around Ludhiana city.        

Singh also appreciated the excellent performance of the cultural items by the medical students. He also presented prizes to the winners of the tournament.           

Dr. Raju Singh Chinna Chairman Organizing Committee presented a digital report of the 3 days event and apprised the Chief Secretary about the efforts of DMC being made for providing quality treatment facilities to the patients. Dr. Daljit Singh Principal also addressed the function.           

Among others who were present on this occasion included Sumer Singh Gurjar, Deputy Commissioner, Kuldeep Singh Joint Commissioner MC,  Sukhdev Singh SDM Samrala and Prem Nath Gupta General Secretary Managing Committee DMC.
