Bollywood star Sunny Deol is BJP pick for Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat

CHANDIGARH: BJP has fielded bollywood star Sunny Deol from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat in Punjab. He earlier joined BJP in Delhi in the presence of Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman. He had met BJP president Amit Shah last week.

BJP is contesting three seats in Punjab. It has already fielded Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri from Amritsar seat. The decision on Hoshiarpur seat is still awaited. Party is in confusion to renominate sitting MP and Union Minister Vijay Sampla.

Gurdaspur seat was fell vacant last year after the death of three time MP Vinod Khanna. BJP had lsot the seat in bye-election and PPCC president Sunil Jakhar defeated BJP's Swaran Salaria. Sunny Deol will face Sunil Jakhar in direct contest.

Sunny Deol and his father film star Dharmendra are very close to Badal family and it is believed Badal family has played important role in Sunny Deol's joining BJP.


Deol entered the Hindi film industry with "Betaab" in 1983 and his best hits include "Border", "Damini" and "Gadar..
