CHANDIGARH: General Categories Welfare Federation  Punjab  welcome  the decision of government of India to give 10% reservation to economically weaker section  and demanded that the condition of 8 Lacs annual family income should also be  imposed on other reserve categories.

Jaswant Singh Dhaliwal President of Federation  demanded that present policy of caste based reservation be stopped and reservation benefit be allowed only to poor and at the most once in life to any family. Federation is in the view that 50% quota seats of educational institutes and all kinds of jobs should be kept open for meritorious candidates and no compromise on merit and quality should be made.

Dhaliwal opined that this decision is the result of  defeat of BJP in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan  where swaran samaj   voted against them and also used NOTA as they were also not in favour of Congress.

Condition of 8 Lacs annual family income be also imposed on other reserve categories  and benefit of reservation to creamy layer may not be allowed at all as per various judgments  of Supreme Court on this point.

Federation further alleged  that only a select few had been enjoying the benefit  of the caste based reservation as there was no exit clause in the present system. They alleged that the reservation in promotions was another issue whereby no common or poor man was being empowered but only juniors are being promoted on the basis of their castes. They demanded that there should be no reservation in promotion and all promotions should be made on the basis of seniority cum merit as all become equal after joining the Government Service.

They further requested the Punjab Government to appoint State Commission for the welfare of General/Un-reserved Categories and misuse of S.C./S.T. Act be stopped in Punjab.
