4 cops suspended for dereliction of duty

JALANDHAR: Police commissioner Gaurav Yadav today suspended four policemen for dereliction of duty during a bloody clash that took place between two groups on cool road yesterday in which seven persons sustained injuries. 

The police cops suspended and transferred to police lines include head constables Dharam Pal & Ram Singh and constables Rimple kumar and Sham Chand posted at Bus Stand police post. The suspension of these police cops was ordered on the basis of the findings of a preliminary inquiry conducted by ADCP(HQ) Navjot Singh Mahal after the people complained to the police that the policemen present on the scene of crime failed miserably to handle the situation in a professional manner.

In the mean while the police arrested Jatinder Singh Mand, the main assailant who led the attack on Sandip Soni and his friends. Both the groups resorted to using sharpedged weapons and pelting of bottles injuring Sandip Soni, Jatinder Singh Mand, Hem Raj, Varun, Mukesh Sethi, Puneet Punni and Vivek.

A case u/s 323, 324, 295-A, 307, 148, 149, IPC and 25/54/59 of the Arms act was registered against Jatinder Singh Mand and his supporters. The cause behind the clash was said to be teasing the wife of Sandip Soni on telephone by Jatinder Singh Mand.
