GURDASPUR: BSF men recovered 950 gm heroin from the border area near BOP Basantar in Gurdaspur sector and arrested 56 year old farmer Darshan Singh, a resident of Ghani ke Bet village in Dera Baba Nanak town of district Gurdaspur.
According to a press note released from the Headquarter of the IG, BSF Punjab Frontiers here, on a specific input that some persons were trying to smuggle contraband through the fencing gate, the BSF troops intensified the search and checking in the area near the border.
During checking, the troops intercepted a trolley tractor for checking which arrived at fencing gate no. 48 in the alignment of BP no. 48/M after harvesting of paddy crop in the fields ahead of the Border Security fence. During search of the trolley tractor, the BSF troops recovered a packet of cloth wrapped in polythene bag containing heroin which was concealed beneath the paddy loaded in the trolley owned by a farmer Darshan Singh.
The BSF apprehended the farmer. The market value of the contraband seized in the international market is said to be Rs. 4.75 crore.
