Bathinda gears up for Dusshera celebrations

BATHINDA: Dusshera will be celebrated with pomp and show in the city today with effigy of Ravan burning at about six places in the city. To end evil, this year not only Meghnad, Ravan and Kumbhkaran will be set on fire but social evils like female foeticide, addiction, unemployment, price rise and corruption will also be set on fire in the form of Ravan. 

Dusshera will be celebrated in Pratap Nagar and is being organized by New Friends Ekta Club. The effigy put up here is about 51 ft and Meghnad and Kumbhkaran stand 45 ft tall. Vijay Kumar, who is the head of the club said that cranes will be used, along with chariot, to fight the battle between Ravan and Ram at Dusshera Ground. Hanuman Ji will put Lanka on fire from 51 ft. as the sun goes down, these effigies will be set on fire using a remote control. A flame of fire will be produced by the Ravan effigy and it will reach the ground from his mouth. Along with these effigies, 25 ft effigies of various social evils will also be set on fire.

Dusshera will also be celebrated at MSD School in the city where 40 ft effigies of the three will be put on fire. SSP Harcharan Singh Brar will set these effigies on fire, informed the head of Sri Sanatan Dharm Mahaveer Dal, Chiranji Lal Garg.

Similarly, about 101 years old Dusshera Railway Ground will also see Dusshera celebrations which will be organized by Northern Railway Mens Union and Railway Dramatic Club. Thakur Singh stated that 40 ft tall effigies will be set on fire by the city mayor Baljeet Singh Beer Behman.

Sri Ram Leela Kendra is also celebrating the festival at Thermal Ground where 40 ft effigy of Ravan has been made and 15 ft effigies of Meghnad and Kumbhkaran. Jaspal Bhatti is reaching the venue to attend the celebrations. 

Linepar Dusshera Committee is organizing Dusshera at Arjun Nagar Gurukul Road and 40 ft effigies of all the three will be set on fire by the mayor. Sri Durga Puja and Dusshera Samiti will be celebrating the festival at the NFL Township.
