CHANDIGARH/ LUDHIANA: Glowing tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Ms Indira Gandhi on her twenty-eighth death anniversary here today. The main function was organised at the Congress Bhawan which was presided over by senior leader and the Punjab Congress vice president  Laal Singh.

Among others present on the occasion included Dr. Malti Thapar President Punjab Mahila Congress, Surinder Gupta President DCC Faridkot,  Rajinder Kaur Member AICC, Rajni Mehta Member PCC, Krishna Mittu Ex Vice President PPCC, Sharma, Lakha Ram Dawesar, Promila and others.The leaders paid floral tributes on Ms Gandhi’s portrait. Speaking on the occasion Mr Laal Singh recalled her great sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country.

He said, India can never forget the great sacrifice she laid down for safeguarding the unity of the country. Glowing tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 28th death anniversary here today. The main function was held at the local Congress Bhawan, where the urban unit recalled her services to the country and the great sacrifice she laid down to safeguard the unity and the integrity of the nation.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Congress Committee Ludhiana (urban) president Pawan Dewan recalled how the late Prime Minister sacrificed her life for safeguarding the secularism and the unity and integrity of the country. “It was her immense and unfailing faith in the secular values that ultimately led to her paying with her life”, he said, while adding, all the congressmen must learn from her great sacrifice which has hardly any parallel in the modern history.

Dewan said, the Gandhi family had a tradition of sacrifice for the country. He pointed out, it was not only Ms Gandhi alone, but her son late Rajiv Gandhi also who laid down his life for the unity and integrity of the country. The workers observed a two minutes silence in the memory of their leader after paying floral tributes on her portrait.

Prominent among those present included Baljinder Bunty, Gurmukh Singh Mithu, Navneesh Malhotra, Rohit Pahwa, Rinku Malhotra, Parminder Mehtra, Pritpal Singh Ghayal and others. 

Meanwhile, rich tributes were paid to slain Prime Minister Indira Gandhi today on her 28th death anniversary. The District Congress Committee organized a function at the DCC office in Rajinder Nagar where Congress leaders, including former ministers Avtar Henry Jai Kishen Saini, Amarjit Singh Samra, DCC president Arun Walia, Varinder Sharma and Ashok Gupta, both PPCC secretaries paid tributes to Ms. Gandhi who was killed by her own gunmen on this day in 1984.

The Congressmen also remembered her sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the nation
