Congress leaders hail Rahul's visit; lash out at vested interests for disinformation campaign

CHANDIGARH: Hailing the recent two day visit of the Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi to Punjab, the party leaders today however regretted the disinformation campaign launched by certain vested interests about his visit. They reiterated that they told Rahul Gandhi that Capt Amarinder was the tallest leader who only could take on the Akalis.

In a joint statement several Congress leaders, who included the PCC office bearers, sitting and former district president and legislators, the party leaders said, the two day visit had really boosted the morale of the rank and file and urged Gandhi to conduct more such visits to the state.

However, the leaders regretted the disinformation campaign launched by certain vested interests who grossly misled the media about what transpired during the closed door meetings.

The leaders clarified that quite contrary to what these vested interests made to appear in the media, there was no demand for the change in the PCC leadership. Rather, they disclosed, an overwhelming number of leaders including the block presidents, district president, the ex-district presidents, MLAs and ex-MLAs told Mr Gandhi that Capt Amarinder Singh was the tallest leader in Punjab who alone could take the ruling Akalis aggressively.

The Congress leaders said, they wanted to set the record straight about Rahul Gandhi’s visit as these vested interests tried to make out as if the visit was conducted for changing the leadership in Punjab. They pointed out, he had come to Punjab as part of his nationwide tour to meet the party workers and have an on the spot feel of the ground situation and the vested interests tried to dramatise it and made it so sensational.

They appealed the party high command to identify such leaders and take strict action against them as such acts of theirs will only lead to demoralization of the party workers, besides negating the very purpose of such visits. They also appealed to the media to cross check the facts lest unsubstantiated things get reported and blown out of proportion.

The senior leaders and MLAs signatories to the statement included: Lal Singh, Jagmohan Singh Kang, Ashwani Sekhri, Rana Sodhi, Kewal Dhillon, Rana KP, Arvind Khanna, Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu, Joginder Singh Panjgraian, Ajaib Singh Bhatti, Mohammad Sadiq, Harchan Kaur, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Ajit Inder Singh Mofar, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Hardayal Singh Kambhoj, Guriqbal Kaur, Balbir Sidhu, Charanjit Singh Channi, Sunder Shyam Arora, Sant Singh Giljian, Rajneesh Babbi, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Aruna Chaudhary, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Sukh Sarkaria, OP Soni, Ramanjit Singh Sikki, Rana Gurjeet, Bharat Bushan Ashu, Gurcharan Singh Boparai, Surinder Dawer, Navtej Cheema and Amrik Dhillon.
