JALANDHAR: Dinesh Dhall, ex-councilor was attacked in the Modern jail at Theh Kanjla in Kapurthala late this evening by some inmates of the jail. The assailants are said to be the supporters of one Noni, a resident of the same ward, Dhall was representing till new house of the municipal corporation here came into existence.
Dhall was sent to 14 days judicial remand by a local court this morning in a case he was booked alongwith other accused u/s 323, 324, 295-A, 307, 148, 149 IPC and 25/54/59 of the arms act for his involvement in a clash between two warring groups over a eve-teasing incident of a woman.
Dhall had surrendered in the Navi Baradari police station on Thursday night after which he was sent to police custody for one day and was produced in the court today after the police remand was expired. The court ordered him to be in judicial custody for 14 days.
Dhall received serious injuries in the attack in the jail and had been hospitalized in the jail hospital for treatment. The Kotwali police of Kapurthala recorded statements of both the partied involved in attack.
