HOSHIARPUR: Municipal council president and former minister Tikshan Sud's former PA Shiv Sood was on Thursday elected district BJP president in place of Jagtar Singh Saini whose three year tenure is set to end in December. Sood was elected president by the mandal presidents in the presence of party observer Satish Mahajan. No other nomination was received by the election in charge in stipulated time which led to Sood's unanimous election. He has served as Hoshiarpur city president and district vice president.
A group of BJP leaders who had recently written to the state election convener of the party, expressing displeasure over the manner in which membership and mandal elections were held, shot off another complaint to national and state leadership raising questions on the procedure adopted to hold the elections. They alleged that the leadership showed unnecessary haste to hold presidential election when their earlier complaint was still lying pending. They said by holding election in a rest house instead of the party office was also a digression.
However, by managing to install a man of his choice as president, Tikshan has once again stamped his authority. Earlier he had got Shiv Sood elected as MC president despite severe opposition from members of the BJP as well as the SAD.
