Liquor vends near Punjab-HP border to remain close during polls

ROPAR: Keeping in view the polling for the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh to be held on November 4 ,the Ropar District Magistrate Pardeep Kumar Aggarwal has ordered the closure of  all the liquor vends falling within three kilometre area of the Punjab-Himachal Pradesh border in Ropar district.

The orders issued under section 54 of the Punjab Excise Act 1914 says that all the liquor vends will remain close till 5 PM on November 4 from today.He also prohibited the sale and consumption of liquor in Restaurants/Ahatas/Clubs/Hotels and storage of  liquor without licence in the area.

He said the orders were necessitated to maintain law and order in the areas bordering Himachal Pradesh during the elections in that state.
