For, now even their super-glam counterparts, the “star wives”, are increasingly breaking free from the tag of arm candy to carve a niche for themselves away from their husband’s immensely popular shadow.
These B-Town ladies are fiercely independent, successful and women of substance.
Here’s a look at the lovely ladies who have set the trend of ‘working star wives’ in Bollywood!
Gauri Khan: Being the King Khan’s Queen makes Gauri Khan the subject of millions’ envy. However, there is more to the charming beauty than the coveted ‘Khan’ surname. Gauri has established her identity as the co-owner of Red Chillies Entertainment Production and is known to be an imperative part of all decision making processes.
Other than that, Gauri also owns an interior designing firm. Recently, she entered a new venture in collaboration with another star wife Suzanne Khan and launched her own interior designing store.
The versatile Mrs Khan also happens to endorse a premier upholstery brand and has been seen in several print as well as television commercials for the same, along with her husband.
Kiran Rao: Another Mrs. Khan but with a difference. That’s Kiran Rao!
Already independent and carving out her own space in the Tinsel Ville when love struck; Kiran went on from being the assistant director of ‘Lagaan’ to directing her own film ‘Dhobi Ghaat’ that won her critical acclaim and rave reviews. As Aamir’s second wife, Kiran has always maintained her individuality without letting her husband’s popularity overshadow her career.
Suzanne Roshan: From being a star kid to being the wife of India’s own Greek God, petite and pretty Suzanne has been there, seen it all. Yet, Mrs Hrithik Roshan has her feet firmly on ground. Known to have stood by her husband through the ups and downs of his life, Suzanne is a true woman of substance.
A degree holder in interior designing from US, Suzanne runs her own store named ‘House of Design’ and is an interior designer par excellence. The huge success of her first venture which brought awards and honours in her kitty, Mrs Roshan has initiated a second venture ‘The Charcoal Project’.
Better known as a celeb interior designer, Suzanne has designed apartments for numerous Bollywood personalities.
Mana Shetty: Angry man Suniel Shetty’s wife Mana definitely doesn’t like being in limelight but is surely a multi-talented personality in her own right.
Construction, fashion and hotel – Mana wears several hats with élan. While on one hand, she is a suave woman entrepreneur juggling between three totally different businesses; on the other, she is a loving wife and doting mother too. But what Mana is perhaps best known for, is her social work. She is associated with an NGO for under-privileged children and is actively involved in several charity projects.
Adhuna Akhtar: The most eccentric star wife, Adhuna Akhtar is a highly talented woman. Actor-director-producer-singer Farhan Akhtar’s better half, Adhuna is a highly acclaimed hair stylist. She was the sole person behind Aamir, Akshaye and Farhan’s unique look in ‘Dil Chahta Hai’. If grapevine is to be believed, Adhuna would soon make her television debut in a show called ‘Be Blunt’.
