PAU Golden Jubilee Hockey Tournament entered third day

LUDHIANA: PAU Golden jubilee day entered into the third day. The first match of the day three was played between Punjab University, Chandigarh and Punjabi University, Patiala in which Punjabi University emerged victorious by 5-4.

Director Students Welfare Dr. Davinder Singh Cheema informed that Parshant of Punjab University Chandigarh scored goal in the 4th minute. Punjab University dominated the proceedings and scored another field goal in the 8th minute through Satgur Singh. Punjabi University reduced the margin by scoring a field goal.

However, Punjab University asserted their dominance by scoring two more goals in 27th and 37th minutes of play. Punjabi University renewed their efforts and created lot of chances and their efforts bore fruit in the 43rd minute when Sukhbir Singh scored a field goal.

Punjabi University completely outplayed the Punjab University and leveled the match by scoring two field goals in 49th, 51st minutes. Punjabi University completed the turn around when they scored the fifth goal in 65th minute which proved to be winner. Dr. PPS Lubana, Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, was  chief guest of the match.

Organizing Secretary Dr Vishavjeet singh Hans further informed that second match was played between host university PAU and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Sh. Jatinder Pal Singh (PCS) Assistant Commissioner and Olympian Hardeep Singh Grewal were the chief guest of the match. PAU took lead in the 11th when Taranjit Singh scored a field goal.

GNDU equalized during 13th minute by field goal of Jaswinder Singh and then took the lead when Ramandeep Singh scored field goal in 35th minute. At the half time GNDU was leading 2-1. Taranjit Singh scored the equalizer for PAU during 45th minute. The equalizer galvanized PAU team and it started playing attacking hockey. However GNDU again took the lead against the run of the play during 47th minute through Gagandeep Singh.

PAU team secured penalty corner during 52th second minute. Jagpal Singh`s drag flick was stopped by Goalkeeper, however Arjun Singh scored the equalizer for PAU converting the rebound. Gagandeep Singh scored fourth goal of GNDU during 54th minute. However PAU team again secured a penalty corner during 67th minute. Jagpal Singh scored through drag flick making the score 4-4. 

GNDU players raided the PAU territory after that, however PAU goalkeeper RattanPreet Singh, stood his ground and brought few excellent saves to deny the GNDU team. PAU team slowed down the proceedings to re-organize their game and the match ended in draw  

Beside large number of spectators Olympian Ramandeep Singh, Dr. Major Singh Dhaliwal,  Ajaypal singh Punia, H S Bhuller were also present.
