PUNBUS workers threaten mass resignation

Tuesday, November, 06 2012 - 17:27

MUKTSAR: Punjab Roadways/PUNBUS Contract Workers Union has threatened mass resignation by December 13 if the state government fails to fulfill their demands.

In the core committee meeting President Kamal Kumar and Vice-president Mehma Singh Sandhu said the Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar and Transport Secretary Mandeep Singh had promised them that 1,000 workers will be given regular appointment while the services of the remaining workers will be regularized within six months.

The duo alleged that the government backtracked on its statement and instead of regularizing their services was hiring new workers for the jobs. Warning that if one thousand workers will not be regularized and a notification is not issued by the state government, the members threatened mass resignation by all the workers on December 13.

They also warned that if their remaining funds such as salary, EPF, security are not disbursed by the Punjab government, a state-wide agitation will be launched.
