Sarabjit Cheema to perform in Bathinda Virasat Mela

BATHINDA: The three-day Virasat Mela today kicked off in Bathinda. The Deputy Commissioner Kamal Kishore Yadav informed this here during a meeting with all officials. A poster of the mela was also issued during the meeting.Renowned Punjabi singers Sarabjit Cheema and Sukhwinder Sukhi will be performing on November 25 during Virasat night.

While talking to the mediapersons the DC said that the mela that is organized by the Malwa Heritage Foundation will showcase the culture of Punjab. Special arrangements have been done by the foundation this time to enhance the impact of the mela this year. This mela is organized every year in Bathinda. The duration has also been increased from three days to four days this year. 

Head of the foundation, Harwinder Khalsa, stated that the Western culture can be seen spreading everywhere and this has affected the Punjabi culture. “To restore our culture and making the youth once again see things that they would have in their childhood and make even the elderly lot remember their young days, the mela is organized every year,” Khalsa said. 

To fulfill the aim of the mela, the members of the Malwa Heritage Workers’ Federation, prepared by the foundation, are at work. Member of the federation, Mahinderpal Singh said that this year the mela will be a ‘not to be missed out’ affair with the preparations in place. About 25 Jaagos will be taken out by the federation this time on November 22 and in this about 1000 people from rural and the urban area will take part. Jaago will be taken out from Virasat village via Mall Road to Gurudwara Quilla Mubarak. Boli and Giddha will also showcase the traditional colours of Punjab. 

Like every year, the procession this year will be started from Gurudwara Haji Ratan on November 23. The procession will also cover places like Rajindra College, New Bus Stand, Mehna Chowk, Old Bus Stand, Cloth Market, Mall Road, Dhobi Bazar, Daak Khana Bazar, Railway Station, Goldiggi, Amrik Singh Road, Teenkoni, Hanuman Chok, and Jaipalgarh village.

After this a kavishri and gavantri event has been scheduled, in which local singers will present their talent. In this Veer Davinder, Jaspal, Deepu, Gurinder, Gora Chakk Wala, Kabaal Singh Upkar will present songs. A play has also been scheduled at the Rose Garden by the Tony Baatish Team at the open theater. Rural games will be organized on November 24.
