CHANDIGARH: Sikh intelligentsia of the national capital has set up a peace committee to broker a truce between the two warring Akali Dal groups that had clashed at Gurdwara Rakabganj, New Delhi, recently.

Senior Supreme Court advocate HS Phoolka is the committee coordinator. Other members are social scientist Dr Amarjit Singh Narang, Sikh scholar and former PGI director Dr JS Neki, writer Ajit Caur and former CBI director Joginder Singh.

One of the warring factions is the Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) that is led by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) chief Paramjit Singh Sarna and the other is the ruling SAD of Punjab which is headed by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Bhajan Singh Walia and Tarsem Singh from Sarna group and Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Harmeet Singh Kalkaji from Badal group have been nominated to hold talks. The panel held its first meeting on November 21 and is already in talks with the two warring factions.
