Students visit Sanjh Kendra

NAWANSHAHR: With a view to view to popularizing the "human face" of the police among the people especially the youth, the district police has chalked out a comprehensive plan to make the people aware about the various public utility services by organising seminars, distributing pamphlets and organising visits of school students at police stations and ' Sanjh Kendras'  as well as to getthe monitoring of the police stations done by the public men during the Public Awareness Week being observed from December 3 to 9 under the aegis of global organisation Altus.

Under this programme, a meeting of representatives of different sections of the society - teachers, traders, social workers, housewives etc. was organised at the " Sanjh Kendra" on Monday to makethem aware about the various services being provided at the Sanjh Kendras and outreach centres set up at Police stations.

Today,a visit of  about 60 students of the local Govt. Senior Secondary School, was organised. The SSP, Dhanpreet Kaur, while welcoming the students in her office said that the idea behind organising students' visits to the police stations was to make them aware about the functioning of the police departments. " The young students would be educated about the changing scenario at the police stations, which ultimately help to strike a better public – police coordination to maintain law and order.

Raj Kumar, Incharge " Sanjh Kendra" while donning the cap of a guide, took the students to various counters of the " Sanjh Kendra" and explained the funtioning. " The police does not only deal with thecrime and criminals but it also delivers various public utility services to the people. The idea behind setting up ' Sanjh Kendras is to eliminate the fear psychology prevailing among the common man tovisit the police stations for the services other than related to crime and criminals", said Raj Kumar adding that besides Sanjh Kendras", Out Reach Centres at police stations had also been set up to provideconducive and people friendly environment to the people visiting police stations to have access to delivery of various civil services.

The students were also taken for a round of the city police station. They were made aware about the functioning of the SHO, Munshi ( Clerk), record keeping like roznamacha, FIRs etc. They were alsomade aware about the concept of Community Policing to check the crime and maintain law and order with active public cooperation. The students of local Parkash Model Sr. Sec. School and Govt. Girls Senior Secondary Schools, Daulatpur would also visit the police stations.

A seminar would be organised at Shivalik Public School anda stall would also be set up by the district police at the Red Cross Mela to be organised at ITI to create awareness among the masses.
