Technical committee to review Rajpura farmers’ issues

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today constituted a technical committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Fatehgarh Sahib to review and resolve various issues related to the width of the passages, laying of irrigation water pipes, demarcation of land etc., of the farmers whose land was acquired by Nabha Power Limited for the construction of Railway line to the under construction Thermal Power plant at Rajpura.

The Chief Minister gave assurance to a deputation of farmers led by General Secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra that all their grievances would be redressed on priority. He asked the technical committee which also includes Technical Advisor to Chief Minister Lieutenant General BS Dhaliwal, representatives of Revenue, Irrigation and Drainage departments besides the representatives of the farmers to review the situation at the earliest.

Badal also advised the representatives of Nabha Power Limited to take appropriate actions as per the recommendations of the committee.

Reiterating the firm commitment of SAD-BJP government for the welfare of the farmers, Badal said that government would ensure the welfare of these farmers at all costs. The Chief Minister asked the company to repair all the village roads which were damaged due to the movement of their heavy vehicular traffic besides providing employment to atleast one member of the family on priority whose land was acquired.         

Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Special Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Gaggandip Singh Brar, Secretary Power Anirudh Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner Patiala GK Singh, Deputy Commissioner Fathegarh Sahib Yashveer Mahajan and Joint General Manager of Nabha Power Limited JS Gill. The members of deputation included Baljeet Singh Bhutta, Master Mahinder Singh, Sher Singh and Harwinder Singh.
