PGI doctor to head American body

CHANDIGARH: Dr Navneet  Singh, Additional Professor in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine at the PGIMER, has been invited to assume the role of the chair of the IDEA Working Group of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).

The ASCO is the world's largest professional body with a global network of nearly 45,000 oncology professionals (individuals working in the area of cancer care). It is a leading resource provider for the practice of clinical oncology in both academic and community settings as well for the oncology research.

Dr. Singh took over as the chair at the 54th annual meeting of the ASCO held in the first week of June at Chicago, USA. He will hold this position for two years. Dr Singh leads the multidisciplinary thoracic oncolgy group at the PGIMER and specialies in thoracic medicine oncology,especially targeted therapies and immunotherapy, for advanced/metastatic non small cell lung cancer.

He works closely with the IASLC- another global organisation dedicated to lung cancer. With over 150 publications to his credit, Dr Singh has been a recipient of several awards and honours for his research in the area of lung cancer,including the Kamal Satbir Award of the Indian Council for the Medical Research (ICMR) in 2014.
