ROPAR: Tension mounted in the area after the unidentified miscreants on Saturday torn about 100 pages of holy Scripture Guru Granth Sahib in Gurdwara Singh Shaheeda in village Dangli near here. The Police have registered a case of sacrilege and started investigation.

The incident occurred early today morning when the part time Sewadar Jagtar Singh went home after completing morning rituals around 6 AM. There is no permanent Granthi in the Gurdwara. Some women of the village who went to Gurdwara informed the sewadar that pages of Guru Granth Sahib are lying scattered. The villagers rushed to the Gurdwara and informed the police.

SSP Rupnagar Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu, DSP Manvir Singh Bajwa and area SHO Rajpal Singh reached the village along with forensic team. SSP said that CCTV camera were installed in camera but incident couldn't be recorded due to power shut down. He said that police would camp in the village and investigate the unfortunate incident in depth.

Jathedar Raghbir Singh of Takht Kesgarh Sahib also visited the village and expressed shock at the incident. He demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. He took away the damaged holy Guru Granth Sahib.

It is recalled that Punjab had witnessed over 100 cases of desecration of holy Guru Granth Sahib during the last year of SAD-BJP government and not even a single culprit was arrested.
