Tips and Tricks to score well in JEE Main 2019

September 20, 2018 02:32 PM

JEE Main is one of the most crucial tests that Engineering aspirants dream of cracking. JEE Main is conducted by IITs every year and is the most important exam that decides the future of the student. JEE consists of 2 stage; First being JEE Main and second, JEE Advanced. Only the ones who clear JEE Main are qualified for the next stage, that is, JEE Advance. It is purely on the score of these tests that the student’s years of college could be decided. The higher the score, the better chances they have to pick the best college out of the many.

JEE Main is considered to be a very difficult exam to crack. The competition level is high and the syllabus is cumbersome. It is a 360 mark paper and is bifurcated into:

Physics- 30 questions- 120 marks

Chemistry- 30 questions- 120 marks

Maths- 30 questions- 120 marks

One element that one must focus on while preparing for JEE is time management. With 90 questions in hand, it becomes very difficult to give equal concentration on each of them, especially if he/she is being self-coached. Therefore, during the preparation stage itself, one must learn to inculcate strategies for giving specific amount of time for specific type of question.

It is important to keep in mind some magic elements in order to crack JEE Main. JEE Main needs to be given a lot of time for preparation. Therefore, one might need to cut down a little on their social life and give as much time as possible for preparation to ace this exam in order to be a part of their dream college. Moreover, another common mistake that most of the students make is by not focusing equally on all the three subjects. By only concentrating on two subjects would not do great at all. It is very important to look at all the three parts of the paper differently during the preparation. Lastly, the most important fact is to keep the basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics strong as this would make the process much smoother and relaxed.

Now focusing on all the 3 subjects differently:

Physics

Three important strategies to follow for physics are to keep the basic concepts clear, learn by heart all the important formulas and give ample of time to the significant and scoring chapters. To get completely comfortable with Physics, solving pervious years JEE papers makes a lot of difference and helps one to judge their potential.

Chemistry

The key trick for chemistry is memorizing the concepts. The portion for chemistry is not as vast as Physics and therefore is a plus point as scoring more in chemistry can shoot up the overall score. Chemistry section is divided into 3 parts namely; physical chemistry, organic chemistry and non-organic chemistry. All you need to keep in mind while preparing for chemistry are critical names, atomic numbers, weights, periodic table etc.

Mathematics

Looking at Maths from JEE point of view, Maths should be taken slow and steady and should be prepared from scratch. Maths is divided into Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and Coordinate Geometry. Maths is all about a lot of practice and mock tests. The more familiar the sums, the faster is the solving process.

Never forget to take as many mock tests as possible. Because it boosts confidence and reduces exam stress.

Proper referencing is important because it helps to cover a major part of the syllabus. Below are the list of reference books that can help in order to crack JEE Main.

Physics: Concepts of Physics by HC Verma

Problems in General Physics- I.E. Irodov

Concept of Competition Physics- Agarwals

Chemistry: Organic Chemistry by Paul Bruice

Physical Chemistry by O.P. Tandon

Organic Chemistry by Morrison Boyd

Mathematics: Objective Mathematics by R.D Sharma

IIT Mathematics by ML Khanna

Higher Algebra by Hail and Knight

In the end, JEE is all about hard work and dedication. All you need to do in order to ace JEE is stay motivated and give 100% each and every day of your preparation.
