Would SAD break its alliance with BJP after Akal Takht edict against RSS-the mentor of BJP ?

Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Badal SAD president
October 27, 2017 09:44 AM

CHANDIGARH: The big trouble is brewing for Shiromani Akali Dal headed by Sukhbir Singh Badal after RSS sponsored funcion in Delhi to commenorate the 'Parkash Utsav' of tenth Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh ji on his martyrdom day. This is lack of knowledge about Sikh religion or planned conspiracy fo RSS adn SAD to create communal divide in Punjab is the subject of debate in Sikh cirlces.

The key guest on the function in Delhu Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was not able to pronounce Sikh 'Jaikara'(Slogan) of 'Waheguru Ji Ki  Khalsa and Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh' and isntead he reversed it 'Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh and Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa'. On being pointed our his mistake, he offered no regret rather justified it saying 'Ulta Seedha Sab Chalta Hai'. He meant to say it doesnt matter if it is reverse of straight.

Punjab BJP Chief Vijay Sampla while justifying celebrayion of Guru Gobind Singh Parkash Utsav said that Guru Gobind Singh was 'Hind Di Chadar' an adage used for ninth Guru Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji. Both Sampla and Rajnath Singh have drawn flak from Sikh organisations.

However the key issue at this point is role of Badal family and their political outfit Shiromani Akali Dal(Badal) in the whole episode. It is reported that RSS and BJP had planned the function with the active involvement of Manjinder Singh Sirsa Delhi Sikh Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee  (DSGMC) General Secretary and close confident of Sukhbir Badal. The members of Badal family inclusing union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Sukhbir Badal and all office beareres of DSGMC were invitees at the RSS function. Manjinder Sirsa has also attended the preparatory meeting. Manjinder Sirsa though a leader of SAD but he is MLA of BJP in Delhi.

Owing to pressure from Sikh organisations, the Badal family withdrew from the function and used Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh as shield to remain aloof from the RSS function. A day before the function, Akal Takht Jathedar re-produced an edict issued in 2004 which banned a 'Gurbani Yatra' by RSS organisation Rashtriya Sikh Sangat. Otherwise SAD leaders had also allegedly booked their rooms in hotels to attend the function.

If we go by the Akal Takht edict on RSS which clearly say RSS is interfering in Sikh affairs was also in force in 2007 and 2012 when SAD formed an alliance with BJP and ruled Punjab for ten years. Was this not an opportunist alliance to grab power well knowing theat RSS and BJP are anti-Sikh forces. Even now when Akal Takht jathedar has once again pronounced the edict would it be moral for SAD to continue alliance with BJP which is political organ of RSS.

The issue of distortion of Sikh slogan by Rajnath Singh and misleading information spread by Sampla would also haunt SAD. Now question arises would Akal Takht issue any verdict against BJP leaders and a section of Sikh leaders present at the function ?

The Sikh organisations strongly feel that RSS was trying to infiltrate into Sikh ranks to weaken the Sikh community and grab the religious bodies through Rashtruya Sikh Sangat. In case SAD fails to counter the argument, it would also cast aspersions on credibility fo SAD(Badal).

Final thing, was RSS and BJP not aware that Guru Gobind Singh Parkash Utsav falls on November 4 and October 26 was actually his martyrdom day ? Would RSS and BJP apologise and if not what would be the stand of SAD?

Capt Amarinder Singh expressing inability to act against Bikram Majithia exposes SAD-Congress nexus

Capt Amarinder Singh
October 28, 2017 10:24 PM

CHANDIGARH: The statement by Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh showing his inability to act agaisnt former SAD minister Bikram Singh Majithia for his alleged involvement in drug racket has led to political storm in the state and also dismayed the Congress Ministers and MLA's demanding to put Majithia in Jail.

Atleast 40 Congress MLAs had petitioned Chief Minister to take action against Majithia who was 'king pin' of the synthetic drug racket in Punjab. This was also one of the election promises of Congress party. Even Capt Amarinder Singh was vocal on the issue and told people he would put Majitjhia behind bars and also promised to eliminate drug mafia in a month's time. Nothing of the sort has happened so far which is causing unrest in the party and people of state feel betrayed by Congress leadership who voted for them in the hope drugs would be wiped out froms tate.

Local bodies and tourism minister Navjot Sidhu had also made public announcements before and after the assembly election to put Sukhbir Badal and Bikram Majithia behind bars for their misdeeds including the for patronising drug mafia. The reluctance of Capt Amarinder Singh to take firm action against SAD leaders allegedly involved in drug racket might be Capt Amarinder's family relations with Majithia family.

Capt Amarinder Singh at a prerss meet in Jalandhar on Thursday said that he knew Majithia and other Akali leaders were involved in drug racket but he cant take action in the absence of any evidence. The comments of Capt Amarinder were shocking and unfortunate. There is lot of evidence available against Majithia. Chief Minister says already central agencies were investigating against Majithia and nothing concrete has came out.

It is recalled that Majithia is named in a drug case registered by Enforcement Directorate (ED) and he was also called for questioning. There are confessional statements by some fo the accused interogated by ED where name of Majithia had figured. Jagdish Bhola dusmissed DSP of Punjab Police who was arrested for running a drug racket had publically stated that Bikram Majithia was kingpin of drug racket in Punjab. Punjab Police had closed the further investigation into confessionakl statement of Bhola. Even the Amritsar based industrialist Jagjit Chahal arrested for connving with Bhola and NRI drug lords had named Majithia. Punjab Police had never called two NRI drug smugglers of Majithia who stayed at his residence.

Punjab Newsline view

Capt Amarinder Singh is related to Majithia family and it is foolishness to expect that Capt will ever act against Majithia. If people of Punjab have voted in the hope that Majithia will be behind bars, it is people's foolishness not of Capt Amarinder.

The question arises what is hinderance for ordering fresh probe by Vigilance department of Special Task Force on drugs to probe the charges levelled by Bhola and other accused in drug cases. As leader of opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira has put it that if Capt Amarinder would order a probe into drug racket, evidence would surface. How can CM say that there no evidence without any inquiry into the matter.

The sale of synthetic and organic drugs was going on in Punjab without any check. The STF formed by Capt Amarinder Singh is not making any headway to act against big fish due to lcak of support from Congress government. Congress had made drugs a major election issue blaming Akalis for the drug menace and surprisingly not even a single Akali leader is arrested in any drug case.

In July last Inderjit Singh a police inspector of Punjab Police was arrested by STF and it was claimed that he helped many drug smugglers to escape long hands of law. He was also allegedly enjoying political patronage from senior ministers in SAD-BJP government. STF had desribed him a big catch but the case was pushed under the carpet without any further investigation. Nobody knows who were the SAD leaders supporting Inderjit Singh and who were the smuglers who were let off either by Police or by courts due to lack of evidence.

Capt Amarinder Singh must come clean on the drug issue and act firmly against drug mafia. People of Punjab expect him to live up to his reputation of good administrator and not working under pressure by SAD leaders.

RSS factor triggers war of atrition between BJP and SAD

Harjit Singh Grewal BJP national General Secretary
October 27, 2017 10:57 AM

CHANDIGARH: Irked over attack on RSS for celebrating Guru Gobind Singh birthday, the The Bhartiya Janta Party today made a frontal attack on Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) and blamed them for harming Sikh Community more tahn anyone else.  BJP has also challenged SAD to break the alliance and then form government in Punjab.

The comments were made by BJP national general secretary Harjit Singh Grewal while debating on a TV channels on the issue of celebration of Parkash Utsav of Guru Gobind Singh and directive issued by Akal Takht asking Sikhs not to attend the function. He said that he had attended the function as a Sikh and he didnt need any certificate from any authority to probe that he is Sikh.

Without naming SAD and Badal family, Grewal said that everybody knows who is behind issuing of Akal Takht edicts. He also said that he respect Akal Tkaht. He said that SAD would not be form government in Punjab without them. He said that blaming RSS for working against Sikh community was misplaced notion. He alleged that rather SGPC was more responsible for damaging reputation of Sikhs and failing in preaching Sikh values. He said that Sikhs were being attacked in other countries and these are not done by Hindus. He attacked SGPC President Kirpal Singh Badungar for issuing misleading statements about RSS.

Meanwhile SAD General Secretary Virsa Singh Valtoha has rubished Grewal's statement and said that for them order of Akal Takht was supreme and politics come afterwards. He said that it was duty of all Sikhs to obey the order of Akal takht. He said that Grewal was nobody to break the alliance and it is decision of BJP. He said that if BJP had any problem they are free to do so.

The issue of distorting Sikh Jaikara (Slogan) by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also become a conflict between BJP-RSS and Sikh Community. Sikhs have demanded apology from Rajnath Singh.

RSS move to celebrate Guru Gobind Singh anniversary triggers major controversy and Sikh protests

Guru Gobind Singh

CHANDIGARH: A majir controversy has started over RSS move to celebrate 350th birth annivesaray of Tenth Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh for which the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat a frontal organisation of RSS is holding a funtion in Delhi on October 25. The Akal Takht and all Sikh organisations have opposed the RSS designs in one voice.

The anniversary of Guru Granth Sahib falls on November 4 when another function is scheduled at Patna Sahib in Bihar. Mohan Bhagwat RSS chief will inaugurate the anniversary function tomorrow where top BJP leaders including Chief Ministers of various BJP ruled states will participate.

Sensing mood of the Sikh community, the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has told Sikhs not to attend the RSS sponsored function while giving reference of an edict issued in year 2004 asking Sikh to boycott the Gurbani Yatra organised by Sikh Sangat. Jathedar has said that Akal Takht had posed certain queries to RSS and they never clarified their stand on it.

The BJP, political wing of RSS has a political alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) of which Badal family is the custodian. RSS is accused of making inrodads into Sikh religion under the garb of its political alliance with SAD and Badal family was blamed for creating room for RSS for their vested business interests.

For now the SAD, SGPC and Delhi Sikh Gurdawara Management Committee (DSGMC) and also SAD faction led by Paramjit Singh Sarna have distanced from the RSS function. The invitation cards of the function had mentioned name of Giani Iqbal Singh Jathedar of Takht Patna Sahib but later he also stepped back. While Patna Sahib Gurdawara management is with Sarna brothers, the management of SGPC and DSGMC is controlled by Badal family. Delhi SAD (Badal) president Manjit Singh GK who is also President of DSGMC was in thick of controversy for giving DSGMC tickets to certain leaders of Sikh cell of BJP but he denied the reports after it became public. Interestingly, DSGMC general secretary is elected MLA on BJP ticket with the support of RSS and BJP.

The Sikh organisations oppose the RSS move to celebrate Sikh festivals on the ground that RSS didnt recognise Sikhs as separate community and consider them a branch of Hindu religon. The RSS has a basic policy of decimating the minority communities and establishing Hindu Rashtra in India. The Sikh, Muslims, Budhists, Christians and Jains consider RSS and BJP a major threat to their identity due to anti-minority stance of RSS and its affiliated bodies. There is also conflict over autority of Guru Granth Sahib as RSS gives credence to Dasam Granth and does not accept the supermacy of Guru Granth Sahib.

The mistruct bewtween Sikhs and RSS is not a new thing even though SAD and BJP enjoy an opportunist political alliance in Punjab and Delhi. These paties have no common ideology but they draw a 'minimum common programme' for themselves to rule in Punjab. Now when Akal Takht has endorsed the fact that RSS and BJP are not well wishers of Sikhs, would SAD the repersentative party of Sikhs break its alliance with BJP?

RSS leader Parteek Singh in a TV debate has taken the stand that Sikhs shall welcome RSS move to celebrate anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh which is in recognition of Guru Gobind Singh's contribution for Hindustan. Sikhs are not ready to buy this explanation.

Karnail Singh Peer Mohammed President of All India Sikh students federation said that RSS has sinister designs of weaking Sikh Panth and they are working on hidden agenda. He alleged that though the blame of massacre of Sikhs in Dehi in 1984 is entirely labled on Congress but RSS activists were also involved in violence against Sikhs and their role is never probed. He said that BJP governmetn at center has not given justice to Sikhs and SIT formed for the purpose has not made any progress.
