Battle against Covid-19: Captain should shun making unwarranted statements: Bhagwant Mann

April 11, 2020 10:59 PM

CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state unit president and parliamentarian Bhagwant Mann has accused Captain Amarinder Singh of indulging in an unwarranted and irresponsible statement-mongering on the current situation, saying he should abstain from spreading fear psychosis among the people of the state and vitiating the already surcharged atmosphere. He said, Captain should, instead intensify efforts and infra to fight the deadly corona epidemic by making adequate arrangement for PPEs and other combat facilities to the front-line fighters, including doctors, nurses,  paramedics, police and administration personnel and sanitation staff and media persons fighting on the front.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Saturday, Bhagwant Mann said that Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, while addressing national media in capital city Delhi, had made a public statement that 87 per cent population of Punjab was in the grip of corona virus, which was a tantamount to creating fear psychosis among the people.

Bhagwant Mann said that though of PGIMER Chandigarh had out-rightly rejected the 87 per cent report (Study) put across by Captain Amarinder Singh, adding that if the data report were true, Captain Amarinder Singh should have proved himself as a peoples’ leader by throwing infrastructure and initiated measures to take on the zobie of Coronavirus pandemic, thus boosting the people's sagging confidence in the face of this global situation.

Mann, said such statements reflected the helplessness of a weak and incapable Chief Minister and government’s ineptitude to effectively deal with the given situation, besides demoralising the forces fighting from ground zero despite all odds, saying these created an atmosphere of anxiety and tension among the people holed up in their homes.

Bhagwant Mann said that Capt Amarinder Singh should take a cue from the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government which took practical, effective and path-breaking decisions to combat the coronavirus epidemic, saying that the Punjab government should immediately adopt Kejriwal government's 5-T and Operation Shield models to effectively take on the deadly virus.

Mann said that if any government in the country was doing well in tackling the alarming global situation, there was no harm in adopting the model in our fight against the coronavirus, cutting across party lines, saying that the need of the hour was to provide the medical staff the safety kits and other infra.

He said the Kejriwal government had gone a step further in terms of providing better facilities and combative infra to the frontline staff, while Chief Minister of Punjab had himself publically confessed that testing facilities worth 3000 in the state were far too inadequate for a 2.45 crore population in the state.
