CHANDIGARH: The Election Commission of India today removed Inspector General Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh from the Special Investigating Team(SIT) which is probing cases of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and police firing on Sikhs by Police at Behbal Kalan. He was head of the SIT.

The ECI has taken the decision on the petition of Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD). The ECI has issued orders to relieve Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh from his post by 5 PM on Monday. The SAD had complained that Kunwar Vijay Partap was making political statements. The ECI has also restricted other members of SIT to restrain from any political comments.

Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, who is considered an upright officer had become an eyesore in the eyes of SAD. He had questioned former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and SAD leaders in connection with Behbal Kalan police firing. His transfer will give a relief to the SAD leaders. The ECI has also directed Punjab government not to post Kunwar Vijay Partap at any post of public dealing till the time elections are over.

Kunwar Vijay Partap had registered cases against high profile police officers IG Paranraj Singh Umranangal and SSP Charanjit Singh Sharma and arrested them in firing cases.

Earlier, ECI had ordered transfer of Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Parneet Bharadwaj on the complaint of SAD. The SAD had alleged that Deputy Vommissioner was doing favour to ruling Congress party.
