Nihangs attack police party in Patiala, severed hand of a policeman, seven arrested

PATIALA: Sone Niahngs today morning attacked a police party in vegetable Market on Sanaur road in Patiala at aroudn 6 AM when the police party tried to stop them at a barricade put up due to curfew.

One of the assailants attacked a policeman with sword and severed his hand from the arm. The police official was rushed to PGI Chandigarh where he is being operated by doctors.

The Nihangs who belonged to a religious place in Balbehra village managed to escape from the site of incident. The police parties led by IG Jatinder Singh Aulakh and SSP Mandip Singh started operation to nab the culprits and gheraoed the Gurdwara where the accused were hiding. Police has arrested seven persons from inside the Gurdawara and one was injured in firing by police. More details are awaited.
