Phagwara police arrests one more accused in woman murder case

PHAGWARA: The Phagwara police today arrested one more accused involved in the murder case of an elderly woman, Satnam Kaur, who was strangulated at her house in Adarsh Nagar in Phagwara on Friday Evening. The Superintendent of the Police Phagwara Mandeep Singh while confirming it told this correspondent here today that the arrested accused was identified as Anju Rani resident of Village Daduwal.

Earlier the police have arrested her daughter-in-law Harjot Kaur of Daduwal village and her accomplice Vikram Singh of Sarhali village on Sunday who were produced before judicial Magistrate Phagwara on Monday Evening who sent both accused in police remand for two days. SP said the third accused Anju would be produced before court on Tuesday.

He said the reason behind the murder was property dispute. Satnam was living alone at her house after the death of her husband. One of her sons died in 2017 and his wife Harjot was living in Daduwal village. SP Mandeep Singh said Harjot had confessed her crime and told the police that she and Vikram went to Satnam’s house on Friday evening and strangled her after having tea with her. Anju did reiki two days before the murder, SP said.

Earlier, as not even a single article was found missing, the police suspected that personal enmity might be the reason behind the murder. SP said the main accused  Harjot Kaur(daughter-in-law) hired the others two.
