Police lathicharge on protesting teachers in Patiala

PATIALA: Hundereds of farmers today held a protest march in home town of Patiala. Police used water cannons cane charged the teachers when they marched towards the residence of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

About half a dozen teachers were injured and some cops also got injuries. The District administation later called the teacher leaders for talks and promised to arrange marriage with education minister OP Soni on February 14 and another meeting with Chief Minister on February 28.

The teachers in Punjab were protesting for the last over one year in favour of their demand to regularise their jobs and pay full salary. The Punjab government had offered to regularise the jobs on reduced salary. He said that the Congress government had been trying to suppress the voice of the common man with the power of lathi charge and water cannons attack. The peaceful protest was a democratic right of the people but Punjab Congress government has lost its sensitivity",he added.

Harpal Singh Cheema AAP MLA and Leader of Opposition said that had the state government accepted the demands of teachers, the situation of confrontration between teachers and police would not have occured. He said that Congress government was adopting path of confrontation. He demanded to ful fill demands of teachers and other sections of employees.
