CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has expressed its serious concern over the rising incidents of crop fires that had wreaked havoc in the state. Holding state government and PSPCL authorities responsible for the menace that had  incurred losses worth crores to the farmers, it has demanded 100 per cent compensation for farmers and Rs 45, 000 per acre compensation to meet the colossal losses.

In a joint statement issued from party office in Chandigarh here on Tuesday, Punjab’s Kisan wing chief, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, SC wing chief Manjit Singh Bilaspur, NRI wing chief, Jai Kishan Rori and Transport wing chief Amar  Singh Sandoa (All MLAs), said that standing ripe wheat crop worth crores was damaged in the recent past due to avoidable reasons, while the state government chose to sleep away as it failed to accord financial succor to the farmers, saying that a substantive number of cases were caused due to short circuit owing to high-tension live electric wires, while the government to turn a blind eye to the issue.

Slamming the Captain Amarinder Singh government, AAP MLAs said that people of the state had decided to teach him (Captain) a lesson for his reneging on poll promises he made to the people during the 2017 assembly elections to grab power.

AAP leaders ridiculed that if Captain Amarinder Singh was not privy to the incidents of crop fires and the reasons behind the killer fires, he should immediately tender his resignation from chief minister ship.

The leaders called upon all people of the state, non-government organizations (NGOs), NRIs and others that they should come forward and save the beleaguered community and salvage it from the crisis being faced by them as there was no hope from the central or the state governments of holding their hands, they said.
