Videocon Insurance Comapny told to pay Rs.25000 compensation for refusing claim

CHANDIGARH: The district consumer disputes redressal Forum has directed the Liberty Videocon insurance company to pay a compensation of Rs.25,000 and litigation mcost of Rs.10,000 to a Kishangarh resident for refusing to admit a claim on car insurance.

Inder Singh, the complainant told the forum that he got his car insured from the company from April 9, 2016 to April 8, 2017. On April 9, 2016 his vehicle got damaged in a road accident. After informing the company, he took the car to an authorised service station who prepared assessment of Rs.2.36 lakh damage. The surveyer of the company filed the claim after verification. The company refused the claim on false ground that damaged parts had deposit of black rust and it is not possible the rust will gather in three days. The company disputed the date of accident.

The consumer forum rejected the claim of the company saying that no such condition was mentioned in the inusrance papers and no such obervation was made at the time of inspection. The forum directed the company to pat the damages as calculated by the surveyer. The survey report had calculated the damage of Rs.85,000. The company will also pay compensation and litigation cost.
