SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh sate secretariat of the CPIM has asked the government to immediately withdraw the hike in electricity tariff and stop singing the rhetoric of being a power state simultaneously ensure that the people are provided cheap electricity. Due to the ruinous neo liberal policies of the BP government, the entire hydro potential of the state is being sold out. The policies are so framed that they serve the interests of private players instead of the people of the state. The people, are forced to bear the brunt and pay heavily for the electricity they consume. The recent hike of 10 to 30 % is a pointer towards it. Though the state has immense hydro potential , but the state government is a net buyer of electricity during the lean winter period.
