##ad_1##CHANDIGARH: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh Wednesday questioned the logic of ordering inquiry and action into the illegal voting during the recently held SGPC elections, at this stage as it is too little and too late now.
“Any inquiry would hardly serve any purpose and it would just be an eye wash as even non-Sikhs were allowed to vote in Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s village itself, while genuine Sikhs were prevented from voting and the elections officials facilitated it all ”, he pointed out.
“It is like locking the stable doors after horse has bolted”, Capt Amarinder remarked in a statement while referring to the Gurdwara Election Commission (GEC) asking the Commissioner of Gurdwara Elections, Punjab to take “immediate action” against those having violated the election guidelines.
The PCC President asked the GEC as what “action” did it expect the commissioner of Gurdwara Elections to take since he happens to be an employee of the government headed by Badal. “Given the fact that the commissioner is an employee of the Badal government, it would be naive to expect him to take any action against his boss”, he observed, while adding, “moreover, no action will serve any purpose as the election process, which though sham, has already been completed and the results declared”.
##ad_2##The former Chief Minister stated that the way the SGPC elections were conducted only eroded the credibility of the GEC. “Not just ineligible voters, but even the non Sikhs were facilitated to vote in the Chief Minister’s village Badal, while the genuine Gursikh voters, observing all the Sikh tenets, were not allowed to vote as Badal feared they might vote against his party”, he said, while pointing out it was extensively covered in the media which was enough proof for the GEC to act instead of waiting for an inquiry which may never come.
