CHANDIGARH: Home Secretary, Chandigarh Tuesday reviewed the status of encroachments in Chandigarh and briefed the officers about the Anti Encroachment Drive being carried out by Chandigarh Administration.

The Home Secretary discussed some recent encroachments which came to his notice in Pocket No.8, village Raipur Khurd, Hallo Majra and Kajheri. He directed MC to remove the encroachments in Pocket No.8. He directed the Engineering Department to remove the encroachments from village Raipur Khurd, Hallo Majra and take up the work of fencing and bamboo plantation within 15 days after getting the site located.
He also directed Deputy Commissioner and SSP, Chandigarh, to get the encroachment in village Kajheri removed at the earliest after checking up the Bio-metrics of the occupants of the colony. He also directed that a weekly meeting should be held by all the officers concerned with their inspecting/subordinate staff to check the status of the encroachment.
An official spokesman said that the issue of encroachment by religious structures which is pending in the Supreme Court was also discussed and Deputy Commissioner was asked to take necessary action in the matter before an Affidavit is filed in the Supreme Court on this matter. The Home Secretary stated that the Administration would take a very strict notice of people encroaching upon Govt. land and people indulging in encroachment in any form would be booked under the relevant provisions of law. He decided to hold fortnightly meetings in future to review the Anti Encroachment Drive of Chandigarh.
