CHANDIGARH: Rajinder Beri a candidate of INC from Jalandhar Central has been booked Under saection 171-E at Police Station Div. No 4 Jalandhar for distributing liquor to the voters.
Disclosing this here today Special CEO Punjab Mrs Usha R Sharma said that Election Commission of India is keeping hawks eye on the activities of candidates and is taking all possible measures to stop the flow of liquor across the state. She said that all arrangements has been made for free and fair elections.
Taking note of the complaints received against Government employees indulging in poll campaigning, The CEO has transferred Head Mistress of Govt. High School Khadoor (Ludhiana) Surinder Kaur to Govt. High School Gumti Kalan, Bathinda and Rishipal Singh employee of Health Department Ludhiana has also been shifted to Head quarter and served with a show cause notice.
She further said that unaccounted cash worth Rs. 324688179 has been referred to the IT Department. Other things such as Poppy husk-2495 Kg., Illicit liquor-12136312 ml., country wine bottles-472534 opium- 10494gms., heroine-6362gms. smack- 2022gms. Lahan-82039 kgs., have also been seized from different places in the state. She said that 205515 licensed arms have been deposited and 65 unlicensed arms and 244 ammunition/cartriges have been seized. She said that 20 cases of violence related to poll campaign or political rivalry have been registered across the state. As many as 8982 non-bailable warrants have been executed and 6488 persons bound down under sections107 /116.
She said that CEO has received 2550 complaints of violations of model code of conduct till date, out of which 1700 have been resolved.
