A 13-year-old schoolgirl, Amrit Kaur, was killed while her friend, Deep Kaur, sustained serious injuries in a road accident in Sherpur Kalan village of Jagraon, Ludhiana, on Thursday.

According to eyewitnesses, the two girls were returning home from school on a bicycle when a speeding tractor-trolley allegedly rammed into them. The impact was so severe that Amrit Kaur died on the spot, while Deep Kaur was thrown onto the road and suffered serious injuries.

Soon after receiving information about the accident, a team from Sadar Jagraon police reached the spot and rushed both girls to a hospital. Doctors declared Amrit Kaur dead, while Deep Kaur is undergoing treatment and remains in critical condition.

Police took custody of Amrit Kaur’s body and shifted it to the mortuary of the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Sadar Jagraon Station House Officer Sukhwinder Singh confirmed the incident and said police officials immediately reached the scene after receiving the information. The body has been taken into custody and further legal proceedings have been initiated.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident and the role of the tractor-trolley driver, who reportedly fled the spot after the collision. Officials said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused driver.
