Chandigarh Administrator and Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria hoisted the national flag at the Independence Day celebrations held at the Parade Ground in Sector 17 on Friday.

Kataria arrived at the program wearing a saffron-coloured turban. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the Punjab government's ongoing campaign against drug abuse and trafficking.

Administrator claimed that around 70,000 people allegedly involved in drug trafficking had been sent to jail. He said the fight against drugs would continue with greater determination in the coming days.

Kataria also spoke about the traffic congestion in Zirakpur, saying efforts were being made to provide relief to commuters at the earliest. He noted that people often remain stuck in traffic for several hours and said resolving the issue would be treated as a priority.

Highlighting developments in the education sector, Kataria said facilities had been expanded in educational institutions and that efforts were being made to further strengthen the state's education infrastructure.

Two NCC cadets faint due to heat

During his address, two female NCC cadets reportedly fainted due to the intense heat. The cadets collapsed while standing at the venue and were immediately attended to by those present. They were taken to a hospital for medical attention. The incident occurred amid high temperatures during the Independence Day celebrations.
