Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers and supporters on thursday staged a protest outside the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) headquarters against the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) raid, which has been underway for nearly 48 hours.
AAP supporters and representatives gathered outside the GMADA office and laid siege to the premises while raising slogans against the Central Government. During the protest, some demonstrators allegedly damaged the windows of vehicles belonging to the ED team parked outside the headquarters.
The situation escalated as protesters reportedly clashed with police personnel, broke the main gate of the office complex and entered the premises in large numbers. Demonstrators questioned the ongoing ED action at the GMADA headquarters and demanded clarity regarding the investigation.
Amid the tense situation, Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varun Sharma reached the spot to assess the security arrangements and review the law-and-order situation. Police officials briefed him on the developments as authorities remained on high alert due to the continuing ED operation.
AAP supporters claimed that the ED action at the GMADA office had entered its third consecutive day and said the government should clarify the reasons behind the prolonged raid.
The protest led to heightened tension outside the GMADA headquarters for several hours. Police personnel attempted to pacify the demonstrators and maintain order, while security was further strengthened with additional barricading around the office complex.
