A woman was shot in the head on Saturday afternoon during a court-ordered property possession drive in Chandigarh’s Sector 42. The incident occurred around 1 pm near the Girls College in Sector 42, creating panic in the area.
The victim has been identified as Manjinder Kaur (also referred to in police records as Manvinder Kaur). She had arrived at the property to take possession of her house in compliance with a court order. A police team and a court official were present at the spot to ensure the execution of the order.
According to DSP Dheeraj, the house had earlier been rented out and was allegedly under the possession of advocate JPS Chadha. Under the court’s directions, the lock of the house was to be broken and possession handed over to the owner.
Police said that after the lock was broken, Manjinder Kaur began entering the house when JPS Chadha allegedly opened fire from a rear window. The bullet struck her in the head, and she collapsed on the spot.
Police immediately overpowered and arrested the accused advocate from the scene. The injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
After the incident, Chandigarh Police sealed the area and launched an investigation. Forensic teams were also called to examine the crime scene and collect evidence related to the firing.
Police officials said a case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and the circumstances leading to the shooting.
