An incident involving an AI-generated image allegedly depicting disrespect at Sri Harmandir Sahib has triggered widespread outrage on social media. The image, which has gone viral, shows three young men standing in the parikrama area wearing slippers and with uncovered heads actions considered against Sikh religious norms.

According to reports, the image was posted on Instagram and features one individual posing with a new scooter while holding its key, with two others standing beside him. The post quickly drew sharp criticism from users, who raised concerns over the violation of Sikh maryada (religious code of conduct).

Following the backlash, Sikh organizations reportedly contacted the individual who uploaded the post. He agreed to remove the image and issued an apology, claiming the act was unintentional and appealing for forgiveness.

This is not the first such controversy linked to AI-generated or manipulated content. Earlier, a video surfaced showing a skeleton wearing a turban inside the shrine premises and scenes of individuals wearing shoes in the langar hall. Another clip had shown a youth with a vehicle inside the parikrama, also sparking protests.

In a separate incident, a youth had drawn criticism for filming a reel while rinsing his mouth inside the holy sarovar, leading to strong reactions from religious groups.

Taking serious note of the matter, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has initiated an investigation. SGPC’s legal advisor Aman Bir Singh stated that the image has been obtained and will undergo technical examination through an AI committee. Further action will be decided based on the findings of the probe.
