Amritsar Bar Association (ABA) is all set for its annual elections today, with more than 3,050 voters expected to decide the fate of 52 candidates contesting for various posts. The court complex has completed all preparations for the polling process, which is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Returning Officer Rajeev Joshi said that 10 polling booths have been established at the ABA office for smooth conduct of the elections. To ensure security and maintain law and order, over 250 police personnel will be deployed across the court complex. A total of 60 ballot boxes have been arranged for the voting exercise.
The contest for the post of President is expected to be the most closely watched, with Gurpreet Singh Panesar and A.L. Sayali locked in a tough battle. P.S. Walia is also in the fray and has been actively working to consolidate support, making the race highly competitive.
For the Vice-President’s post, Rajdeep Singh Ghuman, Amritpal Singh Momi and Puneet Sharma are engaged in a triangular contest. While Ghuman is seeking re-election, Momi and Sharma are also mounting strong campaigns.
The race for the Women Vice-President’s post features senior advocate Prakashdeep Kaur and D.K. Bedi as the main contenders, with Sharanpal Kaur Sandhu and Naresh Bala also competing for the position.
The Secretary’s post is witnessing a keen contest between Harsimran Singh and Sunpreet Singh Mann, while Gurmeet Mann remains a significant challenger. For the post of Joint Secretary, Saurabh Sharma, Akshay Jain, Dheeraj Anand, Rajni Joshi and Sunil Kumar are in the running.
Kapil Sharma and former Treasurer Rakesh Sharma are facing off for the Treasurer’s post, while Narinder Kaur and Sunaina Soni are contesting for Librarian.
Several candidates are also vying for Senior Executive and Executive positions, adding to the excitement of the election. With campaigning ending and voting underway, the final verdict now rests with the members of the Amritsar Bar Association.
