Amritsar Police have arrested a youth and recovered two illegal pistols along with two empty magazines during a special operation against illegal weapons. The accused has been identified as Karanjit Singh alias Karan, son of Harjit Singh and a resident of Kohala village under Lopoke police station limits.
According to police, a case under the Arms Act was registered at Lopoke Police Station on September 8, 2026. Following the registration of the case, the accused was arrested and the recovered weapons were taken into police custody for further investigation.
ASI Gurjeet Singh said that a police team was on patrol duty and conducting checks on suspicious persons when the accused was spotted near the drain bridge on Raniye Road, Chogawan. Police had set up a checkpoint in the area and were inspecting passersby under the lights installed at the location.
During the operation, officers noticed a young man approaching on foot from the left embankment of the drain carrying a heavy wax-coated packet in his right hand. On seeing the police team, he allegedly became nervous and attempted to move away from the spot.
Police team immediately intercepted and detained him with the help of accompanying personnel. During a search, officers recovered two .30-bore pistols and two empty magazines from his possession.
Police have arrested Karanjit Singh and launched further investigations to determine the source of the weapons and whether he had links to any criminal network.
